About

The 061 is an ongoing art and design project originated by Eoin Barry to reclaim and reframe the identity of a city that was frequently represented through negative stereotypes and headlines by the mainstream media in Ireland. Beginning with the appropriation of an area code of Limerick in Ireland the code initially formed part of his graffiti tag, as the project developed Eoin used visual mediums such as printmaking, wearables and street art to generate civic pride in the citizens of his hometown. As a result his hometown is now often referred to as The 061. While grounded in a specific place, The 061 operates as a broader framework for questioning how cities are authored, represented, and understood particularly those shaped by external narratives rather than the voices of the people who live there.

Alongside his studio practice, Eoin has an extensive background in creative education and community engaged work. He has taught and led across secondary, further and community education, and progressed from Head of Art & Photography in post-primary into his current role as Senior Curriculum Manager for Creative and IT in further education based in Shoreditch, London. In this role, he leads curriculum strategy across art and design, film, fashion and emerging technologies, in IT.

A central strand of Eoin’s practice is his commitment to community-engaged work. Through teaching, writing, and collaborative projects, including The Urban Classroom, he positions the city as a shared learning environment, using local histories, public space, and visual culture as tools for engagement. His practice prioritises collaboration with communities, schools, and cultural organisations, and seeks to create work that is publicly accessible, socially rooted and responsive to place.

Eoin has exhibited extensively in Ireland and internationally, including a solo exhibition at the Belltable Arts Centre, with over 25 group exhibitions across Ireland, the UK, Spain, and China. His work has received arts awards and public funding, and he has undertaken international residencies. Alongside his artistic practice, he has held a range of curatorial, educational, and leadership roles, contributing to civic, cultural and educational initiatives at local and national level.

Eoin is open to large scale street art and community projects, commissions, collaborations and licensing opportunities, working with cultural organisations, educational institutions, local authorities and commercial partners. His practice is particularly suited to projects that engage with place, public space, education, community and he welcomes conversations around long term collaborations as well as one-off commissions.
